Professional Preventive Care

Regular dental checkups and evaluations with a pediatric dental team are recommended to keep your child smiling brightly. The team at Spinnaker Pediatric Dentistry provides a range of preventive services, including professional cleanings, dietary counseling, and fluoride varnish application. Composite (tooth-colored) fillings and silver diamine fluoride treatments are also available. Our team of specialists is here to support parents, caregivers, and our young patients throughout the dental journey. We provide general education about oral health and oral hygiene.
Dental sealants are a common preventive measure for children. These are thin plastic coatings we apply to the chewing surfaces of back teeth. The sealants “smooth” out the tooth grooves, providing a protective shield. This enables better cleaning and keeps out harmful bacteria that causes decay.
Dental Crowns
STRENGTHENING AND REINFORCING THE TEETH
Crowns are sometimes necessary to protect and restore a child’s teeth. They are for children of all ages and are especially useful in restoring damaged or underdeveloped baby teeth. Baby teeth play a critical role in your child’s oral health development, so restoration is preferred over extraction whenever possible. Even though children eventually lose their baby teeth, these teeth are placeholders. They help guide the adult teeth into the right places. Spinnaker Pediatric Dentistry offers stainless steel crowns and Sprig zirconia crowns. Sprig crowns are specially designed to preserve baby teeth. They are also tooth-colored, ensuring a natural-looking smile for your child. Dr. Cooper is an instructor for Sprig. He regularly travels across the country to teach other pediatric dentists how to place these innovative white crowns.

Pulp Therapy
NERVE TREATMENT FOR LITTLE TEETH
Pulp therapy is a nerve treatment tailored specifically to baby teeth. This is indicated if the inner part of the tooth, or pulp, becomes infected or if extensive decay exposes the pulp to harmful bacteria. Pulpitis occurs when the tissue inside the tooth becomes inflamed or infected. It can be very painful for a child and, if not treated, can lead to further oral health problems in the future. Pulp therapy can be done on baby teeth or permanent teeth.
Extraction
WHEN SAVING A TOOTH IS NO LONGER AN OPTION
The team at Spinnaker Pediatric Dentistry is dedicated to your child’s oral health. We will do everything we can to save a tooth, but sometimes that is not an option. Sometimes a tooth needs to be extracted to make room for the surrounding teeth or to ensure there is space for a permanent tooth to erupt into the right place. Our office offers a range of sedation and anesthesia options to keep your child comfortable during their treatment. We can provide you with information about all available options so you can make the best decision for your child. Your dentist will also give you aftercare instructions to assist your child with a speedy recovery.
Sedation Dentistry
KEEPING YOUR CHILD COMFORTABLE DURING COMPLEX TREATMENTS
At Spinnaker Pediatric Dentistry, we understand that complex dental treatments can cause anxiety in young patients. We offer a range of sedation dentistry options to keep your child comfortable and relaxed during their procedure. This can be particularly helpful for extractions and lengthier appointments. Our two most commonly used options are in-office nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, and oral conscious sedation, which involves giving the child oral medication approximately one hour before their appointment. With oral conscious sedation, your child will still be conscious but very relaxed.
Hospital anesthesia is our third option. Alternatively, we have a traveling anesthesiologist who can administer general anesthesia in our office. This can result in major savings for parents as there are no hospital fees.
